Walk through Canillas de Aceituno

As you approach the village from Trapiche, take the MA125 road and after a 10 minute drive on the winding mountain road, up on the right you will see the Factory of Puertas SMP Spain SL. producing doors for domestic and export markets. Further on to the right as you come into the village is the municipal football stadium and on the left just before the roundabout is the builders merchants of Hermanos Carrero.
Over the roundabout we take the left fork which takes us into the heart of the village, ignoring for the moment the bypass on the right and the Rio Bermuza road up to the left.
Up a slight incline opposite the infant school, we come to the Cooperative San Isidro Labrador refining and selling olive oil of the region. On the left, opposite the municipal car park entrance, (where we can park and continue on foot) is the Camino del Nicar, with the factory of Instalprof manufacturers of double glazing doors and windows. Back down this hill and turning left onto the main road into the village we come to Mundo Animal Roceo J Rocio on the left and Ferreteria La Fuente on the opposite side.
Next we come to La Maroma restaurant on the left, with the El Puente Bar on the opposite corner.
Continuing further into the main part of the village and passing a children’s playground, we see La Sociedad bar and restaurant. Turning left we enter one of the two squares, “Plaza Maestro Francisco Gallero Badillo” with the Unicaja bank agency here, having the only ATM of the village. At the corner with Constructions Rusticas Canillas SL and estate agents Abracasabra, we turn right and having passed Carniceria Esperanza we look down Calle Nueva and see Supermercado Guadalupe, the El Mastren bakery, the Estanco tobacconist shop and Comestibles Amparo grocery store. Passing the Mercado Municipal with the Benimar fishmongers shop, we then continue onto the main square “Plaza de la Constitucion” which has the Ayuntamiento (town hall) at one end and the Casa de Cultura / Tourism and information at the other end. Near the town hall and up the steps is the new boutique Olive and Ivy Hotel.
Close to the town hall we find bar El Picota, also in the square is the post office (only open certain hours in the morning), the estate agents of Canillas properties, the Carniceria y supermercado Adorin, plus the Jubilados social centre, which is situated above co-workingcanillas. In front of the social centre we find the Electric Vehicle Charging Point, and opposite is Farmacia Lupion. The farmacia is on the corner, on the junction of Calle Llanillo, also down this street is Frutas y Verduras Sonia fresh fruit and vegetable shop, plus further on bar/restaurant Nebula.
Returning to the square and facing the Casa de Cultura, to the right looking toward the church of “Nuestra Senora del Rosario y San Leon Magno we find the El Tasco de Pepe churros bar, opposite is the new Bar Andalucia and the small shops of Cecilia’s, and Angels. To the left of the Casa de la Cultura and following the sign for the municipal swimming pool, continuing along Calle Agua / Calle Placeta we pass Bar Angel and Reme’s shop. Further along Calle Placeta, past the Axa agency, we find on the right Bodegon Juan Maria bar and restaurant and on the right a little further on is Mi Lucero clothing factory. Opposite the factory is Chivo de Canillas, processing locally reared goat. Walking on past the children’s playground we come to disco bar Nebula with the local dentist’s clinic opposite.
A further few minutes walk brings us to the roundabout of the MA126 road / Canillas bypass, and about 50 metres towards Sedella, the Municipal swimming pool and Barbacoa Jairo, bar and restaurant.
